Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve tried to cover the most common questions here, but if I missed something, just reach out. I’d love to hear from you and am happy to discuss and questions you have!

Are you a licensed in-home childcare provider?

Storybook Summer Camp is defined as a summer day camp under Florida Statute 409.175, which means we are not required to be licensed by the Department of Children and Families (DCF) like traditional child care facilities. However, your child’s safety and development are my top priorities, and I take that responsibility seriously.

I maintain a clean, child-friendly environment, plan age-appropriate activities, and follow consistent routines that support both learning and emotional well-being.

What is your experience with kids?

I’m a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom who has spent many years caring for and working with children. I began babysitting as a teenager and have continued supporting kids in various roles ever since. Over time, that early experience grew into a steady focus on nurturing childhood literacy, encouraging creative play, and understanding how children learn best. I also serve in my church’s children’s ministry, where I work with infants and toddlers ages 6 months to 2 years, supporting their early development in a calm, engaging environment.

What inspires the way you care for kids?

I’ve always enjoyed working with children, and over time, that interest has grown into a steady pursuit of learning more about child development, psychology, and education. I’m especially influenced by the work of Dr. Daniel J. Siegel and Dr. Tina Payne Bryson (The Whole-Brain Child), Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish (How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk), Dr. Lawrence J. Cohen (Playful Parenting) and Simone Davies (The Montessori Child). These resources have helped me better understand how to guide children with respect, patience, and clear communication.

What are camp hours?

Camp will run for 10 weeks, from Monday to Friday, starting on June 2nd and ending on August 4th, 2025. Drop-off is at 8:00 a.m., and pick-up is at 4:00 p.m.

Need extended hours? Please reach out, I'd love to see how I could accommodate.

What ages do you accept?

The reading selections and activities at this camp are specifically selected for children ages 5-8. To ensure that all campers fully engage with the scheduled activities, we are currently only accepting children within this age range.

How many children will be enrolled?

A maximum of 5 campers will be enrolled, for a total of 6 children each day (including my daughter). This small group size ensures safety and allows for meaningful group activities and personalized attention.

Do you offer part-time or drop-in options?

Not at this time. To keep our group consistent, maintain a smooth daily routine, and anticipate necessary supplies, I’m only offering full-time enrollment.

However, if your family needs to start a week late, end a week early, or take a week off during the 10-week camp I would be happy to accommodate!

How much does Storybook Summer Camp cost?

Camp tuition is $175 per week, per camper. A sibling discount of $25 applies for each additional child enrolled in the same family. Payments for the upcoming week of camp are due each Friday at pick-up.

A $50 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your child’s spot. This deposit will be applied to your first week’s tuition. Full payment for the first week of camp is due Friday, May 30.

Are meals and snacks included?

To ensure each child’s safety and accommodate individual dietary needs and preferences, meals and snacks are not provided. Parents are asked to pack a lunch, two daily snacks, and a water bottle for their child each day.

Are we billed for absences?

I understand that things pop up! I can provide a credit for up to 3 unplanned absenses. Credit for the day missed will be applied to the following week's tuition.

Can I visit or tour before enrolling?

Absolutely! We’d love to have you and your child over for a playdate. It’s a great opportunity for us to get to know each other, for your child to become familiar with our space, and for you to feel confident that our environment meets your family’s safety and comfort needs.

What’s your policy on screen time?

We are a primarily screen-free summer camp. On occasion, we may use short movement or "brain break" videos during indoor days when weather limits outdoor play. We may also watch film adaptations of a books we've read together—but parents will be notified in advance before media is shown.

What is your discipline philosophy?

My approach to discipline is rooted in respect, consistency, and connection. I strive to create a safe, supportive environment where expectations are clear and age-appropriate. When challenges arise, I guide children through gentle redirection, natural consequences, and reflective conversations that help them take responsibility and grow in character. My goal is to foster cooperation and self-regulation—not simply compliance. Harsh or physical punishments will never be used.
